Newton captures RMU dunk contest

The man they call Juanie has some serious hops.

Robert Morris guard Desjuan Newton came into the team's preseason dunk contest as the heavy favorite, and while he didn't connect on his most difficult slam, he went home as the unofficial winner.

Newton bested a handful of teammates by dunking over 6-foot teammate Britton Lee in the final round. Stephan Hawkins also had a highlight reel jam with a between-the-legs finish. Newton and Hawkins were joined in the contest by Kavon Stewart and Aaron Tate.

Newton nearly finished off what would have been the most difficult dunk of the night, and it came on his first attempt. Newton tried a windmill finish after taking a between-the-legs pass from Karvel Anderson.

Robert Morris and Newton open the season with an exhibition game on October 28 before the season opener against Savannah State on November 10.

Here's the final dunk from Newton:
