Robert Morris has officially announced the hiring of Darrin Hicks as the football program's new offensive coordinator.
ColonialsCorner first reported that Hicks would be hired last week.
Hicks, a former assistant on new Robert Morris head coach John Banaszak's staff at Washington & Jefferson, was most recently the quarterbacks coach at Division II St. Augustine College. Hicks was also an offensive coordinator at North Carolina Wesleyan and Delta State University.
"One thing that's impressive about Darrin is that he's worked for a number of very good coaches and, because of that, he has an awareness of the offensive side of the football that is what we need at this point," Banaszak said in a statement. "He's going to be able to come in here and install a new offense that will take advantage of the skill-position student-athletes that are in our program."
In an exclusive interview with ColonialsCorner last week, Banaszak said he admired Auburn's offense and wanted to use their methodology and balance in his offense. Hicks brings that style, as he's used a combination of accurate quarterbacks, mobile quarterbacks, and strong running games in a variety of formations.
Hicks isn't the only new addition to the staff. Banaszak has also hired Cornelius Coleman to help coach the defensive line. Coleman, who once worked in the compliance department at RMU, is a Waynesburg graduate who most recently coached at Division III Averett University. Coleman was also the assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator at Averett.
