It's almost game time, folks! The Colonials are in Athens, GA for a tough matchup against a well-balanced and disciplined basketball team. Georgia is a respected high-major program, but don't be fooled, this team is definitely beatable. The Bulldogs aren't going to kill you from long range, but their bigs are highly skilled and will caused matchup problems for the Colonials. Point guard J.J. Frazier runs the show for UGA and is putting up a solid 15.2 points per game, while dishing out 4.0 assists. He's a very good tempo setter, so the Colonials' 2-3 zone has to be active, especially at the top.
Sophomore forward Yante Maten is the main guy to keep an eye on. Maten is 6-8 and can bully his way inside by using his size and strength. He's currently averaging 15.9 points and and 7.4 rebounds per game. So again, the Robert Morris bigs will be tested early on. If Maten can easily find his way inside, UGA will keep feeding him until the Colonials can stop it. I say if Robert Morris can contain these two players, then they have a chance to stay in this game from start to finish.
BUT, Rodney Pryor is going to need help. I talked about what each player needs to do in my christmas article, but Pryor really does need help scoring the ball. Asking two freshman in Still and and McConnell to score at a high rate is risky, so guys like Elijah Minnie and Kavon Stewart have to continue to step up on a more consistent basis. Billy Giles and Andre Frederick are key tonight. Not only do they have to play great defense and contain the Bulldogs' bigs, but they have to finish around the rim when they get the opportunity too.
Getting off to a 2-10 start has to be frustrating, especially within the Robert Morris program. Tonight ends the Colonials' non-conference schedule and I tell ya, it can't come any quicker! Hopefully they come out strong and play a competitive game.
Prediction: Robert Morris puts up a fight, but Georgia will get the last laugh. UGA 85, Robert Morris 72.
